it does not happen that often any more that unreleased music from 40 years ago surfaces. even more unlikely it is that the songs put on tape are such treasures. the voltags were right at the forefront of the local washington dc new wave/punk scene of the late 1970s. influenced by kraftwerk, gary numan, the clash, and the b-52 s, they have released only one 45rpm single during their existence. but during the time span of not even 18 months, they had recorded enough material for an entire album but the songs remained in the can. this is the story of the voltags, a short-lived band which could have become famous and mentioned in the same breath as the aforementioned music legends of that era if their songs had been released back in the day. dive in and enjoy the sound of the voltags, it is truly special. we here at perfect toy are thrilled to be label to finally release their work and we sincerely hope that they are finally getting the appreciation they so richly deserve

mick has been active in the seedier corners of electronic music for more than 30 years, first immersing himself in the world of hi-nrg and new wave before embracing the house, techno, acid and electro explosion of the late 1980s. aligned with dj hell in the 90s and more recently the intergalactic fm crew, hes the quintessential selector. a life spent digging in the undergrowth for deviant dance music has given him the edge that makes a truly gifted spinner, without riding on hype or studio productions. however, mick isnt adverse to the odd outing on vinyl, having previously appeared on international dj gigolos both solo and as the kinky lovers with sometime partner isabella venis, but these moments are few and far between. for this release on arma, mick has given us two edits that speak to his distinctive style as a dj the original tracks are cult choices re-moulded into deadly, subversive club weapons. the brooding darkwave of himmelfahrt 89 is enough to turn the most indifferent bar crowd into swaying, baying denizens of the night, while stay silent pummels out a relentless electro motif that teeters on the edge of destruction for 11 thrilling minutes. these arent crowd-pleasing dj tools, and neither are they slick and easy edits of obvious classics. this is a peek into the inner workings of a man with decades of experience working masses of flesh into a sweaty fever pitch using sounds youve never heard before. the mastering on micks edits was undertaken by none other than dutch electro legend rude 66, while the striking artwork on the sleeve sees arma reach out for the first time to french artist judex. the nerve-shredding, broken op-art assault was originally found in a book published by cult illustrator sam rictus.

from quebec, with love is the first ep from sleazy, a project from stacy boudreault (marie davidson) and sam paquette (ginger breaker). an ode to the rural and suburban quebec experience, sleazy is the progenitor of suburban techno. sleazy made their recorded debut in april 2017 with the single que calor, released as a limited edition cassette at a party headlined by helena hauff in montreal. described by npr as equal parts inviting and menacing and pitchfork as playful and sensual music made for the family home s basement a soundtrack for all the salacious discoveries one might make in that damp, dark incubator.

first time band anthology - includes 9 unreleased tracks! this fall, the independent literary press all night menu will publish sam sweets hadley lee lightcap, a nonfiction novel that traces the backstories of the three members in acetone, a band that played in los angeles for nine years. though few heard them, their recordings are time capsules of who they were, how they lived, and where they came from. light in the attic has partnered with all night menu to present acetone 1992-2001, the first anthology of the trios music. the book and the album will be released at the same time.

dark entries is proud to present the deluxe 2xlp reissue of �come visit the big bigot� by severed heads, oone of the longest surviving bands to emerge from the australian post-punk independent music scene. they began in sydney in 1979, incorporating elements of �industrial� noise-generation, tape cutting & looping and electronic sound synthesis. as the project developed song-structures and vocals were employed in a more-or-less recognizable mutant electro pop style. after many line-up changes featuring garry bradbury and psychedelic guitarist simon knuckey, severed heads was the vehicle for composer tom ellard. �come visit the big bigot� was severed heads� first record to be released commercially simultaneously in australia, north america and europe in 1986. it was a prime period for this industrial dance music and bigot was a respected album that did well from the tour they did with skinny puppy that same year. quite a few people still define the band by this period. �come visit the big bigot� was made on a fostex 16 track recorder in tom�s bedroom, employing the newly acquired akai s612 sampler and roland sh-101 to create most of the drum sounds. the album signaled a new direction, flirting with the dance floor and the pop song. presenting the heads at their most cohesive, while retaining their distinctive musical stamp. tom�s vocals are harmonized, slowed down, sped up, run through fuzz boxes, backwards, drum machine rolls, sampled guitars, horn sections, and voices but with a subversive rather than malevolent intention. tape loops are more subtle and define their own space and texture. like the original australian version of the album, we�ve included a bonus disc featuring three extended remixes by sydney dj robert racic (who produced the edited 7� version of �petrol� we reissued in 2015), plus three b-sides from the �twenty deadly diseases�12� and two additional tracks from the same recording sessions.

following his self titled lp, illa j sometimes known as �john regal� (born october 13.1986 in detroit, michigan) is a singer, songwriter, rapper, producer, multi instrumentalist. he takes us on a trip to his hometown detroit with his third solo album home. his last lp successfully took illa j out of his brother and hiphop legend j dilla�s shadow to show he is in his own lane. yet, yancey still felt as though he was in a box labeled rapper. teaming up with producer calvin valentine, who entirely produced the album, home is illa j�s first album to properly showcase the full extent of his vocal range to put him in the singer-songwriter conversation. the listener can feel the soulfulness of this lp through illa j�s singing and valentines� smooth production.

house music maestro louie vega returns to nurvous to remix disco hit �up jumped the devil� by john davis & the monster orchestra. originally released in 1977 on sam records, �up jumped the devil� featured music performances from some of philly�s finest musicians, many of whom also featured on albums by the salsoul orchestra. among them were michael �sugar bear� foreman on bass, drummer charles collins and guitarist dennis harris. percussion came from larry washington, whilst don renaldo provided the strings and horns. with a rugged and rough rhythm section and blazing horn parts, the track was an absolute bomb amongst disco djs at the time and continues to shine as a gem today.

2017 repress due to high demand and crazy online prices!! santuri s embaire umeme ep got a worldwide premiere from gilles peterson on a never-ending quest to support and exposure far off musical cultures around the world, the next on the corner releases sees them look to uganda. teaming up with santuri (an east african electronic music innovation project) and soundthread (a creative development non-profit), they have worked alongside the mugwisa international xylophone group with modern recording techniques and further re-arrangement on two remixes. the first, by sam jones, was premiered last week by stamp the wax, and today ushers in the second by alejandro mosso. a thudding kick drum at the first beat aims this one straight towards the early evening dancefloor. working in unison with samples from the giant wooden xylophone and conversations between the musicians, serves to place the track back into its original context and is allowed to settle for a couple minutes, before what sounds like a kora or zither brings a far-eastern twist. with the slow-burning, steady elements of a balearic production and the beguiling hypnotism of steve reich s work this is a big worldwide favourite.
